Sursly Font: Up For Grabs

Meet Blackout
The font that my site (not blog, yet) uses is called Blackout. I was tired of filling in all the open spaces of some of my favorite sans fonts. I also hadn’t made a font in quite some time…so I created it from scratch. While it is still a work/experiment-in-progress (as is sursly.com) I’d like to offer it up for usability testing (fun!). I’ve only ever made my pixel fonts public, so this is a new endeavor for me. All you have to do is leave a comment here and introduce yourself. Easy enough, right?

2 Flavors

I also wanted to spend less time reversing out the font, so I have a positive and negative of each character.

The first is called “Midnight“:

Sursly - Midnight Font

The second is called “2AM“:

2am

Enjoy A-Z, 0-9 and an assortment of odds and ends (, . ! etc…). I’ll email you the font to the address you provide in the comment (not public), and I’d love to see what you use it for. Thx.

Fellow Ithaca developer/designer here. Have a few projects in mind that could benefit from this font’s awesomeness. Would love to test/give some feedback. Send away!

    Thanks!

  2. Ann Onymus says:

I think your font is sexy and there’s a thing or two I’d like to do with it. Tell me, is the designer as appealing? Cause I could think of a thing or two to do with him too.

Always up for an interesting new font. Loving the site by the way – I think I clocked a visit from you on my server logs, so I guess you already knew that!

    Take care,

    Andi

I’d love to get my hands on this font set! I love this style of typeface. Reminds me of the Relient K logo (www.relientk.com)

Hi Man. I stumbled upon your website. Interesting visuals. Very original usage of horizontal scrolling. Only for people with high bandwith though ;) I’d love to have a copy of the font’s, see what I can do with ‘em.

I’d love it even more if I had it in my collection ;)
    Happy New Year!

    Hey Tyler,
I got the tip to view your site from Van Eldik Studios in the Netherlands and i must say, your design and enthousiasm is very motivating. I’m a regular visitor.

I’d love to get both fonts to use on a site i’m working on for my ten year old son.

    Thnx a bunch

    Hey Dude.

May you send me this awesome font? I would like to use it for my own clothing trade called “chocolate.pool” and maybe for the headlines on the website.

A big “LOVEYA” from Kassel, Germany,

Hey! You did it! The teen in my life doodles by filling in all the holes in type… She wanted a font that looks just like the one you made! Would you, could you, please? I’d love to use it on her portfolio site for college… :)

I’m thinking that if crack is as alluring and addictive as type, I should probably continue to avoid it. From one typofile to another, thanks. I can’t wait to use them. Props from the O-to-the-K. (That means Oklahoma. But it was way cooler when I said it like that. Plus I used “props.” Bonus.)

  13. jen says:

Hi, I wrote about a month ago, but didn’t hear from you. Were you jammed with requests? It wouldn’t surprise me!

  14. Jesse says:

I say sir, this is a fantastic font. I randomly found your site through stumble & wanted to note that your site has truly inspired me to do something different with all my upcoming web work including my own. I will be definitely telling people about your site! -Jesse.

I have a few in house projects for our nonprofit that I could use both of these fonts for and would like to try to see if I could make it work.

  16. Scott says:

Love your blog and site! I would love to play around with this font a little. I do not have a set project to use it on yet, but I am sure it might come in handy some day. Great work!

    Hi Tyler,

Stumbled across your site on a design gallery. It looks great…can’t believe how it’s been ripped off though. Are you still giving the font away??? If so please send on to me! Many thanks

  18. Fritsie says:

Great site. Wicked blog. Fab font. Probably will be useful someday soon.

Muchas gracias for sharing (if it’s still available that is). :)
